ESCEI's El Segundo's Night

ESCEI hosted a cyber education night at the El Segundo High School on March 23. There were over 150 children in attendance ready to learn about cyber security. The students and parents first gathered in the auditorium for a presentation lead by Shrenil Sharma, Carson Doreing, and Ben Kooper. Students and parents learned the vital importance of staying safe on the internet. They also learned about how technology is becoming more involved in our society as time goes on and the jobs involving coding are becoming more valuable.

Once the presentation was over, the students broke up into three different groups. Each group went to a separate station. There were three stations that each had different activities along with different lessons. One station worked with Code Combat in the engineering lab and learned about coding using the computers. Another station played cyber patriot games in the library and learned about the importance of internet safety. The last station did a QR scavenger hunt and played Rosie's Runtime which taught students about basic computer/technology information and the basic set up of coding. After a certain time period, the students would switch stations. Each student had the opportunity to experience all three stations. There were mentors stationed at all three areas and some who traveled with the students. All the students had a fun time while learning important lessons about technology.
