ESCEI attends the PLTW CA Statewide Conference

On Tuesday Jan 24, ESCEI Attended the 6th Annual PLTW Ca Statewide Conference. There we had the opportunity to present our program to teachers and administrators from all around the state! Here's a breakdown of what happened!

ESCEI presented a session on the state of computer science and the importance of learning to stay safe online due to the increasing amount of threats people face in this new age of technology. Our presentation included a live demo of how easy it is to access public information and tips on how to stay safe online! The demo was well received by the teachers and admin present!

After the presentation, the audience got the chance to talk to us. This was beneficial to both the teachers in the audience and us, as they ask questions about anything our presentation did not cover and we were able to exchange contact information with any interested teachers who want to discuss either plans for any future events at their school districts or the first steps to starting their own cyber education clubs/programs. Our games were displayed for teachers to play and we had development kits available for purchase. We were glad to show the importance of cyber security and computer science.

ESCEI also had the chance to meet PLTW Worldwide CEO VInce Bertram who agreed with a lot of things we said and added his insight on the future of computer science! Afterwards, he posted a picture with some of ESCEI's student mentors saying "“No one can predict the future, but we can create it.”

All of us here at ESCEI would like to thank the California PLTW Statewide Conference at Riverside for allowing us to spread our message about the importance of teaching cyber security and the basics of computer science. We would also like to thank all of the teachers who came and watched our presentation, we would not have such a successful experience without them. And we want to give a special thanks to El Marino Language School, LA Ballona, Linwood Howe, South Torrance High, Stockton Unified School District, and North River High for contacting us after the conference and we hope that we have success working together. Lastly, we would like to thank our sponsors and our staff here at ESUSD for supporting our club and allowing us to prepare the next generation for the technology-dominated world they will grow up in!
